The AI disruption continues apace; it’s not yet visible to everyone, but most (maybe all) code will be written by AI within a few (2-3) years. See excerpts from recent earnings calls and podcast appearances below.
This matters a lot to the Mag7 (Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Tesla …) / Chinese BAT (Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent) and similar - most of their inputs are people (coders / developers) and they produce most of the world’s code. They also have most of the world’s capital to fund the insane front-loading of cost that AI demands.
MSFT 0.00%↑ , GOOG 0.00%↑ , META 0.00%↑ all beat earnings. By a lot. Apple report due later today (1st May EDT).
At the same time, whoever makes the best AI today, has the best engineers tomorrow (because the best engineers will be computers, not people). OpenAI could have say 300k-500k “superhuman” engineers that work 24/7/365 without unions or complaints in a couple of years. Why would they not rewrite & win everything? (BTW: This could be why Mark Zuckerberg, open-sourced Llama - the critical need to ensure a level playing field and prevent any one competitor from owning all the good engineers/computers).
